“CRITIC’S Choice… It's hard to enumerate all the ways in which the Deaf West's “Awakening” is so very, very good… Compositionally spectacular and emotionally truthful, [Michael Arden’s] “Awakening” awakens us to the dormant possibilities of this musical, with all the goosebumps and teardrops to prove it.” — Los Angeles Times

“The show is very much about not being able to communicate between parents and kids. So there’s a great metaphor, a beautiful metaphor with it being done with this particular set of actors.” — Duncan Sheik in The Hollywood Reporter

“SPECTACULAR… unlike any production of Spring Awakening I’ve ever seen… beautiful and totally unexpected... thrillingly provocative… I can recommend no better production.” — BroadwayWorld

“WOW!... AWE-INSPIRING… there has never been [a production of Spring Awakening] more uniquely brilliant than Deaf West’s.” — Stage Scene LA

“There is magic afloat… Transports the story to Shakespearean levels of dramatic power… beautifully directed… dazzling choreography… superb musical direction.” — Theatre Spoken Here

"The Word of Your Body is Reborn in Deaf West's Spring Awakening" — Playbill

“Pure theatrical magic… delicate deft and inspired… incandescent… Miss it at your own peril” —Haines His Way

"...it was here that I finally surrendered and let this tsunami of theatricality carry me away. The voices, the arrangements, the direction, a cohesion so seamless the only response is surrender... This is LA Theater at its best, presented by one of LA Theater’s best, Deaf West Theatre. I know that now." - Colin Mitchell, Bitter Lemons

“A conceptual masterpiece… wildly successful… absolutely breathtaking to watch” — Neon Tommy
