Born and raised in California, David "DJ" Kurs grew up attending shows at Deaf West Theatre. Having deaf role models in the arts from such a young age planted the seeds for his community activism and inspired his life in the arts.
He has served as the President of the Board of Directors for GLAD, and as a dedicated TEDster.
Kurs has been recognized as a leader by the California Association of the Deaf and served as a lead committee member of NEA's National Roundtable on Creating Opportunities for Deaf Theater Artists at the Deaf Theater Action Project in collaboration with Emerson College.

Now retired, Ed is still an active part of Deaf West, currently serving as the President of Deaf West's Board of Directors.
